Breakout Scripted Reality Series has Enjoyed Seven-Year Run in Germany on RTL
NEW YORK, JANUARY 28, 2014 ̶ Atlas Media Corp., one of the world’s leading independent producers of non-fiction television series and specials, has acquired the rights to Wham Bam Scam for the U.S. from Germany’s Global Screen GmbH. The announcement was made today by Bruce David Klein, President and Executive Producer of Atlas Media Corp.
“This form of scripted reality is a proven hit in Europe and is ready for its close-up in the US,” said Mr. Klein. “This format, with its unique production style, will absolutely connect with American viewers, and the initial response to it has been extraordinary.”
The scripted reality series has been a hit on RTL in Germany and has been in production for 400-plus episodes during the last seven seasons. Atlas Media Corp. EVP, Business Development & Special Projects Kaki Kirby and Alexandra Heidrich, Sales & Acquisitions Manager Formats for Global Screen GmbH, orchestrated the licensing agreement for the format.
Wham Bam Scam features outrageous stories of lying, cheating, and other transgressions. Whether its people who embezzle, steal, or cheat on a loved one…people who make false accusations or have secret lives – all too often little white lies grow bigger and darker with time, threatening to “blow up” at any given moment. Wham Bam Scam is a unique format that transforms this high octane conflict-resolution material into the scripted reality era.
Just a sampling of the shows storylines include: A woman discovers by accident that her loving husband, a traveling salesman, has another family in another city…A young male teacher is suspended when one of his female students claims she is pregnant with his child…A store run by three sisters is plagued by burglaries ever since a group of vagrants settled in the street. But then the suspicion falls on one of the sisters… and so it goes.
